When you can't sit still, try these books to maintain that.
Welcome to my reading blog. This blog is mainly about books I like to read when I need some clarity.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." - Dr. Suess, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!"
What is Reading?
I never liked to read, as I could never could sit long enough to read a book. I would read the words, but get distracted by thoughts in my head so I eventually gave up on it. I always loved going to the library though (which makes no sense). I absolutely adore the New York Public Library, it just astonishes me every time I walk in there. I would try to read while there, but still couldn't. I put reading to the side for a long time, as I never really had the time (my excuse). I started looking back into to reading only within the past year, and now I cant put the books down. I was in London at the time and wanted to get a good book for the flight back as you can only watch so many movies. I met a good friend of mine on the last day that I was there, we were catching up and she pulled a book (One Simple Thing) out of her bag and was like I want you to have this. She knew I was very into yoga and wanted me to read this. I first looked at it like, meh I don't really like to read. She looked at me and said, "just read it, it will help you". So I did, I got on the plane back home and read the book completely without one thought in my head. I was shocked, and felt so enlightened after it all. I texted her immediately and thank'd her. After that read, I found myself constantly wanting to read and I do now. What a eye opener!
Below is the book I read on the plane and two others that I currently enjoy. If you are currently a reader- keep at it. If you are not, try to open yourself up to the idea. I promise you will see a change in some aspect of your life. As always, this is just me sharing MY journey with you all. #namaste
Book #1: One Simple Thing: A New Look at the Science of Yoga and How It Can Transform Your Life- Eddie Stern
This is the book I read on the plane back to JFK. A MUST READ for the YOGI's that are reading this blog. Yes, this book is about the science of Yoga. The postures, the breathing, the way we acknowledge things, how yoga helps us mentally, physically, and emotionally. Eddie Stern really takes you into a place of acknowledgement and enlightenment. If you do not practice yoga yet, you will want to after this book."We only exist where we place our mind."
- Eddie Stern
Book #2:Next Level Basic: The definitive BASIC BITCH Handbook- Stassi Schroeder
You are going to see this title and be like... HUH?? Yes, I have added this to my list of books as it keeps me lighthearted. My blogs aren't always going to be exactly geared towards yoga, I want to share things that bring a smile to my face as well. This book is hysterical, and sometimes you need a good laugh! This book has nothing to do with yoga, but I can relate to a lot of it, and just that makes me want to keep reading. This can be for the guys out there as well, find your inner basic bitch! (HAHA). " To truly become a Next Level Basic bitch, you will have to be willing to admit your mistakes, take responsibility, and learn from them so you don't keep acting like a jerk, whether it is social media or in real life."
- Stassi Schroeder
Book #3: The Power of NOW: A guide to a spiritual enlightenment- Ekhart Tolle
This book will show you that the majority of the time we feed our ego with things that haven't ever even happened. Thoughts, scenarios that we worry aboutt, that feeds the ego and keeps you in the negative space. STOP feeding your ego, stop it from thriving from all the things you made up that haven't even happened. The PAST will get you no where if you continue to be there, the future hasn't happened yet so you can't believe all the scenarios. Stay present, stay in the current day, and your path will open, as if you don't overwhelm your self with "thought" you will be able to take in the positive of each day. " When consciousness frees itself from its identification with physical and mental forms, it becomes what we may call pure or enlightened consciousness, or presence."
- Eckhart Tolle
